About Us
The History
Based in Mount Gambier, South Australia, Launch Disc Golf was founded by Ryan Nicholson in 2021. Ryan Discovered disc golf in 2015, and he has since fully immersed himself into the lifestyle the sport offers as a player, tournament director, and committee member at club, state, and national levels.
The Why
Passionate about exploring parklands and nature reserves all over the region for potential disc golfing venues, Ryan is forever on the lookout for new locations and the opportunity to introduce disc golf to the uninitiated.
Also, realising the sport’s recent explosion in participation both socially and competitively, he continues to quickly outgrow the already limited access to permanent courses and events.
The How
During his several years immersed in disc golf, Ryan has undertaken numerous roles and responsibilities from the founding president of Mount Gambier Disc Golf plus terms on both the state and national governing bodies.
Key achievements in these roles include facilitating the MGDG League Competition and tournament director duties for major tournaments, including the 2019 Australian Championships. Other skill sets learned consist of liaising with councils, overseeing budgeting, and installation of projects.
Achievements such as the Crater Lakes Disc Golf Park installation include proposing to and liaising with the council, orchestrating the proposal, and installation of the course infrastructure.
Liaising with the council and overseeing knowledge gained within the sport as a tournament director, event planner, course designer, and more.

Disc golf can be enjoyed in a vast number of different settings, from small residential parks and medium-sized, high-foot-traffic recreational areas accommodating other activities up to expansive parklands and national reserves.
This flexibility has had a key role in disc golf's popularity soaring, as a broader demographic can have access to beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses, the majority of which are free to play.
A challenge for organisations and individuals considering the use of existing or new spaces allocated/proposed for disc golf is understanding the full scope of possibilities and limitations each space possesses.
