Based in Mount Gambier, South Australia, Launch Disc Golf was founded by Ryan Nicholson in 2021. Ryan Discovered disc golf in 2015, and has since fully immersed himself into the lifestyle the sport offers as a course designer, player, tournament director, and committee member at club, state, and national levels.
Ryan's passion for disc golf was fuelled through the support of the greater Australian disc golf community and the desire to see disc golf implemented in his home city of Mt Gambier. A successful proposal to council resulted in Ryan overseeing the development and installation of the Crater Lakes Disc Golf Park including the acquiring of Andrew Ferguson as co-designer. This experience ignited Ryan's love for disc golf course design and introducing the sport to new communities. 2019 saw Ryan take on the role as Tournament Director for the Australian Disc Golf Championships honing his skills in providing successful high quality events. Recognising the many benefits Disc Golf possesses as both a recreational activity and accessible sport, Ryan started Launch Disc Golf with the goal of sharing the sport and his passion to as many new communities as possible,
Passionate about increasing awareness and accessibility to Disc Golf, Launch Disc Golf actively explores parklands and nature reserves for potential disc golfing venues and opportunities to introduce disc golf to new communities. A key strategy Launch Disc Golf uses to achieve this is through facilitating pop up tour events in such locations. These events are accessible to locals and attract players from all over to partake and visit the region. Examples of this include events at Millicent, Beachport, Naracoorte, Hamilton and Warrnambool. This experience gained through scouting & evaluating locations, facilitating events, designing courses and liaising with the councils has positioned Ryan and Launch Disc Golf to make your disc golf discovery a walk in the park.
Disc golf can be enjoyed in a vast number of different settings, from small residential parks and medium-sized, high-foot-traffic recreational areas accommodating other activities up to expansive parklands and national reserves.
This flexibility has had a key role in disc golf's popularity soaring, as a broader demographic can have access to beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses, the majority of which are free to play.
A challenge for organisations and individuals considering the use of existing or new spaces allocated/proposed for disc golf is understanding the full scope of possibilities and limitations each space possesses.
Launch Disc Golf can alleviate these challenges by offering space evaluations, including detailed reports and recommendations outlining key findings, such as scope for use, environmental impact, residential impact, and safety issues/requirements.
